About the IMF’s Communications Department
The IMF’s Communications Department serves as the central hub for strategic communication across the organization. It designs, coordinates, and implements both internal and external communications strategies that shape the Fund’s global image while also ensuring staff engagement and information flow within the institution.
Within COM, the Internal Communications Division (COMIN) is specifically tasked with strengthening communication between IMF Management and staff. Its role includes managing internal platforms, producing digital content, and, importantly, overseeing institutional events that foster dialogue, collaboration, and a sense of community.
Position Overview: Communications Officer (Event Producer)
The IMF is looking for an experienced Event Manager/Event Producer to lead the planning, organization, and execution of high-profile events. The successful candidate will play a critical role in streamlining workflows, introducing best practices, and strengthening digital integration to improve the overall event management process.
This position is a one-year contractual appointment, renewable for up to four years based on performance, business needs, and budget availability. The role is based at the IMF Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities
The Communications Officer (Event Producer) will report directly to the Chief of the Internal Communications Division and will work in close partnership with other departments across the IMF. The main areas of responsibility include:
1. Event Planning and Governance
- Develop comprehensive guidelines for institutional event planning, covering high-level events, departmental gatherings, and community-focused activities.
- Create timelines, venue selection standards, speaker protocols, and resource allocation frameworks.
- Conduct training workshops to help IMF staff adopt and apply these guidelines effectively.
2. Partnership and Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with the Audiovisual, Hospitality, and Facilities teams in the Corporate Services and Facilities Department (CSF).
- Coordinate with other COM divisions and IMF departments to ensure seamless event management and alignment with institutional communication goals.

3. Marketing and Promotion
- Design and implement internal marketing strategies to promote events effectively.
- Utilize IMF’s digital platforms to engage and attract participants, ensuring maximum visibility and staff participation.
4. Event Execution
- Lead the execution of select high-profile events, ensuring that logistics, production quality, and delivery standards meet the highest professional benchmarks.
5. Post-Event Evaluation
- Conduct impact assessments and post-event reviews to measure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop evaluation guidelines and share best practices to enhance the overall event management process across the institution.

Qualifications and Skills Required
The IMF seeks candidates who possess a mix of academic qualifications, professional experience, and communication expertise. Key requirements include:
- Education: An advanced degree in communications, marketing, production, event management, or a related field with at least four years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree and ten years of event management experience will also be considered.
- Project Management: Strong organizational and planning abilities with the capacity to manage multiple complex events simultaneously.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to anticipate challenges, adapt quickly, and provide effective solutions.
- Innovation: Demonstrated track record in designing creative approaches to internal engagement and digital event production.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders across all levels.
- Knowledge of IMF Operations: Familiarity with the IMF’s mission and activities is an asset, though not mandatory.
Expected Deliverables
During the tenure, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Assess current event management workflows and provide recommendations for the IMF’s Calendar of Events (CoE) platform and the upcoming Events Management System (EMS) project.
- Develop a detailed institutional event planning guidebook and training manual.
- Deliver training sessions for key event organizers.
- Execute selected high-profile internal and external events to the highest professional standard.
- Produce post-event evaluation reports and impact measurement guidelines.

Contractual Terms
This role is offered as a one-year contractual appointment, with the possibility of renewal for up to four years depending on performance and organizational needs. The appointment is classified at the A11–A12 level within the IMF structure.
