Save the Children is currently inviting applications for the Program Aide On-Call (Substitutes) position under its Head Start, U.S. Programs division. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to support early childhood development while working part-time in a dynamic, community-focused environment. The position is on-site and based in Spiro, with an hourly rate starting at USD 15 per hour.

Position Overview
The Program Aide On-Call role is a part-time, substitute-based position designed to support the daily operations of Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Program Aides are considered generalists, meaning they play a flexible role across classrooms, kitchens, custodial services, transportation, and other program areas as operational needs arise.
This position reports directly to the Manager, Education & Inclusion or the Center Director and may involve travel between various program sites, including classrooms, centers, and occasionally home visits. As a frontline representative of Save the Children, Program Aides are entrusted with the safety, well-being, and development of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.

Key Responsibilities
Program Aides are expected to contribute positively to children’s learning environments and overall program functionality. Core duties include:
Classroom Support
- Assisting teachers and classroom staff with daily educational activities
- Supporting lesson preparation, classroom materials, newsletters, and family engagement events
- Serving as a temporary substitute for Teachers or Assistant Teachers when needed
Janitorial & Facility Support
- Providing custodial assistance such as cleaning classrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and common areas
- Supporting basic maintenance tasks and ensuring facilities remain safe and secure
- Occasionally serving as a substitute custodian
Kitchen & Nutrition Support
- Assisting with meal preparation, food portioning, and dishwashing
- Supporting food service compliance, including hygiene and sanitation standards
- Substituting for Cook or Assistant Cook as required
Additional Duties
- Serving as a Bus Monitor when assigned
- Attending staff meetings, workshops, and required training sessions
- Promoting Head Start programs positively within the community
- Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff

Required Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a High School Diploma or GED
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of working with young children
- Have professional proficiency in spoken and written English
- Show sensitivity, patience, and the ability to work effectively with children, families, and colleagues
- Be willing to obtain First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification within 90 days of employment
Preference is given to current or former Head Start/Early Head Start parents who meet the qualifications.
Physical & Compliance Requirements
This role involves medium to heavy physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Candidates must pass comprehensive background checks and meet all federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. A valid driver’s license is required, as some duties involve operating a motor vehicle.
