About UNDP in the Pacific

UNDP is the lead UN agency working to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, and build resilience to climate change. Through its network of experts and partners in more than 170 countries, the organization develops long-lasting solutions that promote peace, stability, and prosperity.

In the Pacific region, UNDP provides support to ten countries—among them Fiji, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, and Vanuatu—and offers regional assistance to five others. Its programming is tailored to local priorities while contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Guided by the Sub-Regional Programme Document for Pacific Island Countries and Territories, UNDP places emphasis on inclusive, pro-poor, and human rights-based approaches that empower vulnerable groups such as rural communities, women, youth, and those at risk from climate-related disasters.

The Communications Associate Role

The advertised position falls under the National UN Youth Volunteer category, designed to empower young people to gain professional experience in international development while making a tangible difference in their own countries. The Communications Associate will directly support the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP), as well as the broader Pacific Digital Economy Programme (PDEP)—a joint initiative by UNDP, the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The Pacific Digital Economy Programme, launched in 2021, is the region’s flagship initiative for fostering inclusive and resilient digital economies. Active in 11 Pacific Island Countries, it strengthens digital financial inclusion, supports innovation, and promotes secure online services, particularly for women, youth, micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and remote communities.

The Communications Associate will play a central role in ensuring that these programmes are visible, engaging, and impactful.
