Internship Overview
The OAIS Data Analytics Internship offers a 24-week full-time remote placement, designed for students or recent graduates in data science, computer science, statistics, or related disciplines. Working under the supervision of the OAIS Director and reporting to the Data Management Specialist, the intern will support digital transformation initiatives in oversight, audit, and investigation functions.

Key Responsibilities
The selected intern will play a central role in bringing data-driven insights to UNFPA’s oversight work. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with audit teams to define and document data requirements
- Extracting, cleaning, and managing datasets from operational systems such as Oracle ERP
- Designing and implementing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for efficient data processing
- Automating analysis through scripts and data validation workflows
- Conducting exploratory data analysis using statistical methods
- Developing interactive dashboards with Power BI
- Researching and prototyping machine learning models for anomaly detection and risk assessment
- Exploring the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to integrate AI into oversight activities
Through these tasks, interns will develop both technical expertise and professional insight into how analytics can transform governance processes.
Educational and Technical Requirement
Applicants must meet one of the following educational criteria:
- Be currently enrolled in a postgraduate degree (Master’s or higher) in data science, computer engineering, statistics, mathematics, or related fields
- Be in the final year of an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject
- Have recently graduated within the past 12 months and be eligible to start immediately
Technical skills expected include:
- Proficiency in Python for data engineering and machine learning applications
- Knowledge of data models, ETL processes, and database design
- Understanding of statistics, including regression, hypothesis testing, and distributions
- Familiarity with Power BI or other business intelligence platforms
- Interest or experience in AI and LLM applications is a plus
Language requirement: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional UN languages—Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish—is an asset.
